Beached Whale Belmar, NJ 07719

This 20-25 ton federally protected, endangered Hump Back Whale calf  washed ashore on 9/9/01 at the 12th Avenue Jetty in Belmar, NJ. US Coast guard officials report that it was dead from about 3 days to a week. A plastic mesh net was found on the whale (photo on page 2). The whale was removed via an Army truck and dragged to the 1st avenue beach, where it was removed in a Belmar Garbage truck. The whale will undergo an autopsy.  Professional quality of all prints is available, pictures taken with a Canon EOS D30 & a Nikon D1H.
